Tenerife is the biggest Canary Island and it belongs to Spain. Without a doubt, it is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in the world. If you look for excellent nightlife, hikes, great beaches, breath-taking mountains or even tasty potato dishes then Tenerife is the place to go.
Each year around 5 million tourists visit Tenerife. The official language is Spanish of course, but you can hear English more often than you think.
The official currency is Euro, and all types of credit cards are valid. The waters are clear and most importantly are populated with a wide range of marine life. If you travel in a boat the chances to spot a dolphin are great. When I took a boat tour with a small boat one dolphin followed us the whole time. It was spreading happiness all over the place and made the trip even more exciting!
The average temperature during winter is 18 degrees and in summer goes over 30, which makes it the ideal destination to travel in any period of the year. Also, the sea temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees in winter and in summer it is constantly around 20.
There are many accommodations in Tenerife. You can go either choose small apartment hotels or stay in a luxury hotel. People usually choose the apart hotels because they feel all the freedom (not limited by meals times). While other people who want just to stay on the beach and eat in the hotel choose the all-inclusive options. I stayed in a five-star hotel, but I did still party. I simply cannot say no to all-inclusive. All those tasty dishes must be tasted!
As a popular vacation spot, in Tenerife, you can find a wide range of theme parks. One of them, which gave me the best experience was the Loro Park. It offers orca and dolphin shows which made me love dolphins even more! If you are an adrenaline junky then we recommend Siam Park. There you will found the exciting pumping Tower of Power that will get your Adrenaline levels to the max!
The beaches in Tenerife are clean and really taken care of. The most beautiful beaches are Las Teresitas, Troya, Playa de la Arena. If you want natural black vocal sand beaches then you should go to the west or south side of Tenerife. Nearly all of the big tourist resorts are located there. Plus, they offer great scuba diving and jet-skiing services, and of course, boat trips around the island.
If you are into hiking then you should go to Teide National Park which recently was added to the National Heritage of the country. The major city of Tenerife is Santa Cruz and it is filled with great stores and shopping complexes. Me and my wife really enjoyed our stay there. We had to buy an additional suitcase to carry all the new clothes.
All in all, Tenerife is one of the best destinations I’ve visited together with Santorini. If you have the chance to go there, don’t think it over and go immediately! You will love it there!

As we said before, the temperature is really high in Tenerife, even in winter. That’s why bring light and white clothes with you so you feel more comfortable when exploring the island.
Tenerife has one of the best nightlife an island can have. And it all goes on in the resorts Costa Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz and Playa de Las Americas. There you can find hundreds of restaurants, bars, clubs, cafes and fast food establishments. The most active is, of course, Costa Adeje. Parties start in the morning and end the next morning. Simply crazy! If you are lucky enough to book your date closer to the Carnival, you will witness the second largest carnival anywhere only behind the one in Brazil. The carnival starts on Friday with a street parade where thousands of masked dancers dance until dawn!
Tenerife has a wide range of hotels and apartments to rent. How bigger is your budget, the better the hotel. Even though it is island prices are not so high compared to places like Santorini.
In Tenerife, you can find different types of food. However, it is mostly populated with traditional Catalan and Spanish delicates. Also, other types like French, African and Arabian influences can be found in their menu. The most famous dish in Tenerife is the papas arrugadas which is a boiled potato dish with a stuffed with spicy pepper inside.
