Dubrovnik probably more famous than the country it belongs to (Croatia), has been attracting more tourists today than ever. Maybe the fact that some scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed there contributed to make it even a more popular tourists destination.
A city that is 1000 years old, a town that survived many wars, still stands intact.
Are you looking for a reason to visit Dubrovnik? There are many reasons whether to gaze upon the beautiful Adriatic Sea, to walk on the medieval streets, gaze upon structures intact from the passage of time or to feel the unique vibe of this fantastic timeless city.
- Explore the Old Town Walls
If you are looking to get the best view of the old town, then you walk through the old town walls. The town wall is 2km long, and it offers you a unique perspective of the city. Gaze upon the city and its harbor, while watching thousands of tourist walking all around and blue color of the sea soothes your soul. It is a sight that will leave a mark in your memory until the rest of your life. Best time to take a walk on the wall is during summer. I would recommend either early hours or late in the day because the heat will hit you hard.
- Enjoy Your Stay With A Good Meal Or Drink
Dubrovnik has many restaurant and cafes. They all offer a unique and special experience that you will enjoy the most. On the upper side of town, you will find Lady Pi-Pi restaurant that offers good food with a pleasant view. However, if you want to have a table there, you might have to wait a while or get a reservation in time. There are always people waiting for a free spot. On the other hand, on the seaside, there are two Buza bars. The entrance is unique – there is a hole on the South side of the wall with a sign showing Cold Drink this way. There you can enjoy a cold beverage, with a perfect view (especially during sunset). Maybe that’s the reason why it is so expensive.
- Explore the Rich History of Dubrovnik
The test of time makes Dubrovnik a rich historical city. Even if there are bullet holes and bombed buildings, Dubrovnik still made it. If you want to know more about this period, visit the War Photo Limited a gallery located on Antuninska street. There you find photos that are sad and very touching. Also, it shows pictures from other conflicts around the world. On the other hand, if you want to know about the older parts of Dubrovnik’s history a guided tour is your only choice. It might take an hour or two, but you will find everything you need to know about the medieval history of Dubrovnik.
- Visit the Game of Thrones Film Locations: Shame, Shame, Shame. We all remember that scene from Game of Thrones. If you want to visit those baroque stairs, go to Gundulićeva Poljana street turn right, and you are there. Close by you will notice the Jesuit Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola. One time, you can actually hear the word shame echoing on a speaker. However, last year it was removed. Other famous Game of Thrones locations you must visit are Fort Lovrijenac, Minčeta Tower, Ethnographic Museum and Lokrum island.
Also, nearly on every corner of any street, you can find Game of Thrones gift shops, offering valuable goods to hard-core fans.
- Explore Shops and Tight Streets
In Dubrovnik, you can find shops like no other place on earth. From hand made jewelry, to fancy clothes and candy shops you cand anything you want.
Buy some gummy bears and walk through the tight streets of Dubrovnik. It will take a long time to explore everything. Make sure that you stay at least three days so that you will not be short on time.
Make sure you wear good shoes in summer. Flip-flops are not recommended. It is a city made of stone after all. It is hot, hot, hot.
Food & Drinks
The food in some restaurants is too expensive. However, you can still find restaurants at reliable prices. On the other hand, drinks are expensive everywhere. Too many tourists mean higher prices.
Buza bars creates good day parties. However, at night the party are loud till sunrise. There are many other bars in Dubrovnik, but we still think that Buza is the best. If you want to feel the nightlife of Dubrovnik, we highly recommend trying both.
Hotels are pretty expensive in the old part of town. However, you will get a view like no other. If you want a more reliable solution, you will at least 5 km from the old town, and probably need a taxi or car to get to the old town.
