It was almost two years ago – and I still remember this place very deep in my head. The power of those 30 meters trees, which are endemic to Madagascar – are just amazing. When you stand there in the middle of the alley and look up, you feel like you are in a marvelous and unique place.
But let’s start with a general description of this place – where is it? Morandova, Madagascar. The Avenue of the Baobabs is a group of Baobab trees lining a dirt road but a national highway (Route Nationale N8) between Morondava and Belon’i Tsiribihina in western Madagascar.
The Avenue of the Baobabs itself is only around 260m long, with no more than 25 trees standing about 30 tall. But believe me – it’s enough. And it’s stuning.

How to get there? The only way to reach the Avenue of the Baobabs from Morondova is by hiring a taxi if you’re not traveling on a pre-arranged tour like most tourists who will show up for sunset.
But if you arrive there around 3 pm or very early In the morning, you will have the whole place for yourself for a few hours.
Another 7 km and 30min on an even bumpier road to the north-west are where the other famous Baobab site is located – the famous Baobab Amoureux, also called the Baobabs of love, the two Baobabs that are twisted together, is located. The drivers are taking you there before they stop in the alley spacely because they dedicated to the village people and spacely the children’s – when you reach there, they will follow you and ask for candy – it can be annoying for travelers that been in Madagascar for some time but please be patient with them and if you can give them some small gift it could be great.
Tip: go there at least two times. the first time will be the ‘first impression time’ – but believe me, the second time will be much more significant, especially if you will get there in more relaxed hours.
